A student of Daniil Shafran and Natalia Gutman, Alexander Suleiman combines two controversial musician’s worlds and this makes his interpretations so unique. His approach to baroque music was strongly influenced by his work with Nicolaus Harnouncourt and his interpretation of Bach’s cello suites draw enthusiastic reactions from audiences and press alike. As a protege of Eleonore Schoenfeld, Mr. Suleiman was awarded the first prize in the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria in 1988 and has, since then, given concerts throughout Europe, Asia, South America and the United States. Among his mentors are Riccardo Muti and Franz Hummel with whom he regularly collaborates. In the USA, he has been invited to music festivals in Aspen/Colorado, Los Angeles and San Francisco and is a frequent guest at international festivals in Finland, Germany, Israel, Austria, England and Russia. As Mr. Suleiman is continually searching for new repertoire for his instrument, his contribution to contemporary music is immense and well-known composers entrust him with the first performances of their new works. Many of these have been released as world premiere recordings on CD by labels such as Guild Music, jpc and MediaHyperium. In the coming season he will give concerts in the USA, Israel and Germany and will give his debut in Canada, China and South Africa, where he will perform the recently discovered Concerto Militaire for Violoncello and Symphony Orchestra by Jacques Offenbach. |
